Registered voters in Hudson are invited to attend tomorrow morning's School District Deliberative Session at 9:00 at the Hudson Community Center. The 2026-2027 school budget and warrant articles will be discussed and updated where necessary.

The Alvirne National Honor Society and Alvirne JROTC are sponsoring the fourth annual Nate Morin Memorial Blood Drive on Tuesday, February 17. The event will take place from 2:00-6:30 pm in the JROTC room at The Palmer Center at Alvirne High School.

 

Anyone interested in giving blood can schedule a time by going to redcrossblood.org and typing in "Broncos" into the search bar.

 

For the safety of Alvirne staff and students, donors may not enter the school until school is dismissed at 2:10.

Title I is a compensatory program funded by an annual grant from the federal government. The Title I program is designed to provide services to all students in Hudson who qualify based on student assessments.

 

Students are provided supplemental reading and math instruction, in addition to the regular classroom experience. Funding is awarded to the school from the federal government based on information from the Census and the Free and Reduced Lunch Program for our district.

 

Title I funds are used to hire additional personnel, and to purchase educational resources that will benefit the students to reach their individual goals. The Title I program in the Hudson School District is a targeted program and instruction occurs in small groups. In the 2025-26 school year, the following schools have targeted Title I programs: Library Street School, Dr. H.O. Smith School, and Nottingham West Elementary School.

 

The local programs are overseen by a Title I Coordinator, who is responsible for developing the grant as well as its design, implementation, and instructional model.

When you hear the term “reimbursable lunch”, it simply means a school meal that meets USDA nutrition standards and qualifies for federal reimbursement through the National School Lunch Program, which the Hudson School District is a part of. These standards are designed to make sure students receive a balanced, age-appropriate, and nutritious meal every day.

 

To be considered reimbursable, a school lunch must offer all FIVE of the required components:

• Fruit
• Vegetables
• Grains (with at least 80% being whole grain-rich)
• Protein (such as meat, poultry, beans, cheese, eggs, or yogurt)
• Milk (fat-free or 1% low-fat or flavored)

 

Students are required to select at least three of these five components, and one of the choices MUST be a fruit or vegetable.

 

Reimbursable lunches must also meet nutrition limits set by the USDA. Meals are planned within age-appropriate calorie ranges with strict limits on saturated fat, sodium and added sugars.

In short, a reimbursable lunch is about ensuring students have access to a well-balanced meal that supports learning, growth, and overall wellness.
