Calendar Reminders

Earlier today, Hills Garrison Elementary School and Nottingham West Elementary School opened their doors to local veterans for a ceremonial Veterans Day walking parade through their first-floor hallways. It was truly moving to see students wearing red, white, and blue colors and waving American flags to honor those who have served our nation. I would like to say thank you to everyone who took the time out of their day to be recognized by our staff and students, and thank you to our Veterans for their service to our country.

Also at Nottingham, in a collaboration with Disabled American Veterans (DAV), a field of flags was created in front of the building that displayed more than 48 American flags. Thank you to Mrs. Nadeau for spearheading the project, which resulted in over $360 raised for disabled veterans.

As a reminder, there will be no school for students on Monday for a professional development day, and there will be no school on Tuesday for the Veterans Day holiday.

I hope everyone has an enjoyable long weekend.

Alvirne Class Act will be hosting its fall show, "I Never Saw Another Butterfly", coming up on November 14-15 at the school. Shows will be on Friday night at 6:30, followed by a matinee at 2:00 and a final performance at 6:30 on Saturday. Further information will be posted on the school's Facebook page before the first show.

As we enter November and get closer to the Thanksgiving holiday, we would like to share some information for food drives that are being run throughout the district.

The Sustainability Advisory Committee will be hosting the first of what they hope will become a fun annual event for families to look forward to on the Saturday after Halloween. Members of the Alvirne Sustainability Club are supporting this new event.

Parking will be in the upper lot of the CTE center (outside the entrance to the Café). Families will then walk down the gravel path/road with their pumpkins to where the Black Earth Carnival Truck will be parked.

Families can enjoy smashing their pumpkins by tossing them into the back of the truck while trying to hit artwork on slats of wood standing up along the top edge of the truck bed.

How often are children invited to make a mess?

Ultimately, the smashed pumpkins in the truck will be professionally composted by Black Earth. The pieces on the ground will be tilled into the soil of the Alvirne Community Garden to naturally compost over the winter.

The Alvirne Counseling Department continues to host college representatives for students to visit with. Representatives from the schools included below will be on-site in Hudson coming up next week.

We're hiring for open roles around the district! Alvirne High School is searching for spring sports coaches, and The Palmer Center at Alvirne is looking for a transportation driver and part-time culinary assistant.

Fourth graders from Hills Garrison Elementary School visited the New Hampshire State House and Historical Library on Tuesday. The students were able to meet with state representatives from Hudson and Senator Sharon Carson during their time in Concord.

Hudson Memorial School honored its October Triple Crown recipients earlier this week. The award is given to those who exemplify the school's core values of respect, responsibility, and hard work.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, local industry partners of The Palmer Center at Alvirne High School visited with Economics classes to go over real-world skills, including resume writing, interviewing, and elevator pitches.
