Superintendent Update - October 13, 2022

I had the opportunity to visit several schools this week and it was great to see students and staff in action.

This week’s update includes:

  • Teacher of the Year
  • Fire Prevention Week
  • School Budget Process Starts
  • Free Online Preschool

Teacher of the Year

Colonel Christian Cheetham, a teacher at Alvirne High School, is one of five candidates for NH Teacher of the Year. Yesterday, I had the honor of welcoming the selection committee who spent that day at Alvirne, meeting with staff, students and families.

Fire Prevention Week

This week is Fire Prevention Week and this year’s focus is on making an escape plan. It’s important that everyone knows what to do and where to go in case of a fire. The National Fire Protection Association offers information on creating an escape plan as well as many other important resources.

School Budget Process Starts

Starting Monday, October 17, the district will present the school budget over several meetings. Each school and department will present its budget and the board will review and ask questions before finalizing and sending it to the budget committee. We welcome your feedback. As always, the meetings will be broadcast live on Hudson Community Television.

Free Online Preschool

The NH Department of Education is offering Waterford Upstart, an online preK learning program that teaches basic skills in reading, math and science. The program is free and more information is available at Waterford Upstart.

Have a good weekend.
