Unified Arts Class Descriptions

ART (60 days)

Students explore creativity through drawing, painting, and sculpture. They learn art skills, discover famous artists, and express their own ideas though hands-on projects. Students gain confidence as they create, share, and reflect on their artwork. .

BAND (Full Year)

Students have the chance to play instruments and perform music as a group. They learn instrumental technique, musical expression, and teamwork while preparing for concerts. Instruments may be rented through the school.

CHORUS (Full Year)

Students have the chance to grow as singers through daily practice and performances. They learn about different musical styles, improve tone and diction, and perform together in two concerts each year.

BAND & CHORUS (Full Year)

Students who wish to participate in both band and chorus should choose the Band/Chorus option. Students choosing this option will participate in two classes during one period, which requires greater student effort (students will learn twice as much music in half the amount of rehearsal time). Performance skills do transfer between classes. Students will alternate attending band and chorus each day.

GENERAL MUSIC (60 days)

Music 7: Students explore music through listening, performing, and creative projects. They play classroom instruments like guitar and piano and learn how music connects to culture and expression.

Music 8: Students create and perform music using online tools and classroom instruments. They explore music from different genres, connect it to personal and cultural experiences, and develop confidence as musicians.

Music 8 Guitar: Students learn guitar basics like simple chords and melodies. They explore different styles, perform together, and gain confidence through practice with school-provided instruments.

Music 8 Piano: Students build piano skills by learning chords, melodies, and techniques. With hands-on practice, they improve coordination, rhythm, and expression using school-provided instruments and technology.

LIBRARY SKILLS (60 days)

Students learn to use technology and online resources responsibly. They explore digital balance, online identity, and how to spot misinformation. Lessons build research, communication, and safety skills to help student become thoughtful digital citizens.

TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION (60 days)

Students learn to design, build, and solve problems through hands-on projects that grow each year. They practice using tools safely, work together to bring ideas to life, and develop creativity, confidence, and real-world skills.

COMPUTERS (60 days)

Computer 6: Students learn to communicate and create using technology. They design documents, presentations, and data projects while exploring digital storytelling and visual design. The class ends with a multimedia project where students share ideas using school-supported tools.

Computer 7: Students are introduced to coding, problem-solving, and web design. They use HTML and CSS to build web pages and learn about online safety and ethics. The course wraps up with a project that combines programming and design to solve real-world challenges.

Computer 8: Students learn to think like computer scientists. They learn how to break down problems, explore coding and design, and work together on creative technology projects. The course encourages independent learning, teamwork, and responsible digital citizenship.

CULINARY (60 days)

Students learn practical cooking and nutritional skills through fun, hands-on lessons. They practice safe food handling, teamwork, and kitchen math while preparing healthy meals. The course builds confidence, creativity, and lifelong healthy habits.

PRE-ENGINEERING (60 days)

Pre-engineering: Students learn 3D design using digital tools and the engineering design process. They create and refine models for 3D printing or laser cutting and strengthen problem-solving and spatial skills.

Robotics 7: Students design, build, and program robots to complete challenges. Working in teams, they practice problem-solving, creativity, and collaboration while exploring real-world technology.

Robotics 8: Students expand their engineering and coding skills by designing and programming robots. They tackle challenges, test prototypes, and work in teams to solve real-world problems creatively.

SPANISH (60 days/Spanish 8 full year)

Spanish 6: Students begin learning Spanish through listening, speaking, reading, and writing. They use common vocabulary to practice communication and explore cultures from Spanish-speaking countries.

Spanish 7:: Students build on their Spanish skills with more advanced vocabulary and grammar. They practice real-world communication and learn about the cultures of Spanish-speaking communities. There is no prerequisite for this course.

Spanish 72: Students begin high school level Spanish I after completing Spanish 7. The course prepares them for advanced language learning in high school.

Spanish 8: Students strengthen their Spanish speaking, reading, writing, and listening skills while exploring culture and communication. This is an immersive class in Spanish. Successful completion earns high school credit.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION (60 days)

Students stay active while developing, refining and applying different skills through a variety of games and activities. The program focuses on teamwork, leadership, personal responsibility, and healthy habits.

TOTAL FITNESS (60 days)

Students challenge themselves with active workouts that build strength, endurance, and healthy routines for life.

WELLNESS (60 days)

Students learn how to make smart choices for a balanced, healthy lifestyle. The course builds strong habits for lifelong wellness and self-care.
