Junior State Assessment Makeup Day - 4/10
For those students who did not have the opportunity to participate in the junior state assessment on Wednesday, 4/2, there will be another opportunity on Thursday, April 10. Rosters and room locations will be posted in the main office.
Good luck to those juniors!
Civics Assessment - Seniors
On, Wednesday, April 23, seniors who are currently taking US & NH Government, and seniors who have not yet passed the state required civics assessment will be taking the assessment. This semester, we are using the state's new online testing system, which will be multiple choice rather than the traditional paper copy with written responses. Testing will take place in the library on the day of the test.
We are going to be testing on Wednesday, April 23 during blocks 1 and 4. In order to take the online test, students will need a device from the Hudson School District. Personal devices are not able to be used. Arrangements will be made to issue devices to those students who need one. Emails will be sent to families to let them know if your student will be testing during block 1 or 4. Please start studying now so that you can complete this graduation requirement. If you have any questions, please ask your social studies teacher, or Scott Rush, the Social Studies Department Head.
Civics Assessment Flashcards
This Past Week at Alvirne High School
Fiesta de 15 años
The Spanish Language Club and the Spanish Honor Society sponsored a formal dance called “Fiesta de 15 años” and it is sometimes also called Quinceañera. The Fiesta de 15 años in Europe and the Americas is a young woman's celebration of her fifteenth birthday, which is commemorated in a unique and different way from her other birthdays. It marks the transition from girlhood to womanhood. The celebration varies from country to country, and from family to family within the same country. The closest equivalents to the Fiesta de 15 años in the English-speaking world are: the sweet sixteen, Bar or Bat Mitzvah for Jewish boys turning 13 and Jewish girls turning 12 respectively, or the debutante ball.
Law and Order Classes Visit the HPD
Mrs. Morin's Law and Order classes took a trip to the Hudson Police Department where they toured the facilities and learned about the booking and processing procedures. They also gained insights into the forensic techniques used to solve crimes.
Officer Jason Downey Visits to Discuss Accident Reconstruction
Officer Jason Downey, along with Haven, recently visited students to explain how the police department employs Accident Reconstruction. He discussed the various factors collected as evidence and the significant role of math and physics in determining speed, friction, velocity, and other elements to understand how accidents occur and identify fault. The presentation also included videos demonstrating inertia with test mannequins.
Independent Living Class Runs Crispi Tots Diner
Ms. Waisanen-Morin's Independent Living class created a diner. The students decided on a name for their diner and created a menu. They took orders from customers, prepared the food, and served it. Items were paid for with artificial money and credit cards that the students also processed.
This was such a great real-world experience for our students! Thank you to Ms. Waisanen-Morin for creating such a wonderful experience for all! Thank you to the students and staff who attended, Mrs. Beaudet for bringing her students to participate, and the paraprofessionals that helped make everything run smoothly.
Thank you to Mrs. Skinner and Mrs. Hales for working so hard to help out students!
