Q3 Ending

As we approach the end of quarter 3 on April 9, it's crucial to review students' competencies (standards in PowerSchool), to ensure that all competencies have a grade of EE or ME. Students will not earn credit for a course with a competency grade of AE or NI. If you have any concerns, please reach out to your student's teacher(s).

Junior State Assessment

Junior State Assessments are occurring on Wednesday, April 2. We want to emphasize the importance of these assessments for our students and our school community. State assessments serve many purposes. State assessments allow the schools to measure student progress and provide supports where needed, as well as to help schools inform instruction. State assessments hold schools accountable for providing a high-quality education to all students and helps identify schools that may need additional resources or supports. Finally, standardized testing helps students prepare for their future whether their future requires college entrance exams or professional certifications.

We understand that testing can be stressful, but we encourage you to support your student by ensuring they get plenty of rest, eat a healthy breakfast, and approach the test with a positive mindset.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership in your student's education.

Criminal Justice Class Visits the HPD

Tuesday, the Criminal Justice class had an exciting visit to the Hudson Police Department to learn about the parameters surrounding Use of Force. MPO and Training Instructor Nathan Glowacki, along with Captain Steven McElhinney, demonstrated how they would respond in various situations, highlighting the distinction between reasonable and excessive force. The students then had the opportunity to test their judgment in escalating scenarios using the virtual firearm simulator. The visit concluded with friendly target practice competitions, ensuring student engagement and that everyone had a great time.

Dep. Sheriffs Merrifield & Wright visit the Criminal Justice Class

This week, Deputy Sheriffs Merrifield and Wright visited our Criminal Justice class to provide an insightful look into the Hillsboro County Sheriff's Office (HCSO). They educated us on the history and evolution of the Sheriff's Office, detailed the various divisions within HCSO, and explained their roles and collaborations with numerous state and local agencies and beyond. We also saw pictures of Niko, the Sheriff Dog, and learned about the equipment in a Deputy's bulletproof vest. Despite the cold and rainy weather, it was exciting to explore Deputy Merrifield's well-equipped truck and Deputy Wright's car. It was fun to hear that Deputy Merrifield was a former Alvirne student, and we truly appreciate both their efforts in community outreach.
