Monday Morning Message - Jan. 1, 2024

Welcome Back!

We hope you enjoyed the holiday break. It will be nice to have students back in the building this week continuing to work hard to finish the semester strong. As a reminder, the midyear assessment week will run from Tuesday, January 16 through Monday, January 22. The schedule and the guidelines for the week are linked here for your convenience. Please continue to monitor your student’s competencies. All competencies must be an ME or an EE to get credit for the course.

Capstone Presentations

Our seniors have been working on their Capstone presentations all semester. Some of the projects students have researched and will present on are, "Learning to make macaroons", "Building a robot", "Cars vs trucks...what to buy", and "The power of editing a film", to name a few. These senior projects truly demonstrate attainment of the skills all students need to be successful after graduation, also known as the Portrait of a Graduate. Presentations will take place on Monday, January 8 from 3:00-5:00 pm and 6:00-8:00 pm and are open to the public. Please come see what our students have accomplished! They will appreciate your support and encouragement.

Student/Family Handbook Highlight

I would like to highlight the Classroom Citizenship Rubric again as we near the end of Semester 1. Although grades and competencies are important, the Classroom Citizenship Rubric is just as important. This rubric reports behaviors that may affect student learning. Please see the rubric and use this rubric to commend your student for behaving in a way that is conducive to learning, or discuss ways in which your student can improve their behavior to help them achieve proficiency in their classes. For more information on grades, please click on the “+” sign next to “Academics” on the Alvirne High School website.

Happy New Year!
