Cheating/Plagiarism
According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, to cheat is defined as, "to violate rules dishonestly". To plagiarize is defined as, "to steal and pass off (the ideas or words of another) as one's own: use (another's production) without crediting the source". Cheating and Plagiarism go against Alvirne's core value of character and will not be tolerated. Some examples of cheating/plagiarism are:
· Submitting another's work as one's own
· Giving/receiving test, quiz, or homework answers (working together without teacher permission)
· Using/supplying "cheat sheets," texts, etc. on an assessment or inappropriately gaining prior knowledge of assessment questions
· Copying work or allowing someone else to copy your work
· Cutting and pasting from the internet or using direct quotations without proper documentation
· Rephrasing the ideas of another without indicating the source
· Using a translator for assignments in world language classes without teacher approval
· Using summaries (Cliff/Sparknotes) in place of reading the text
· Submitting internet/AI work as one's own
For more information on the penalties for cheating/plagiarism, please see the Student/Family Handbook linked here. Click on the "academics" tab and scroll to "Cheating/Plagiarism".
