The first-grade students at Dr. H.O. Smith School are having a productive and fun month in May. We started off the month with the installation of our playground. We are so thankful for all the parents and community volunteers. The students are enjoying their new playground every day at recess.
All classes enjoyed their field trip to the Discovery Museum where students were delighted in taking part in the joy of science, nature, and play. Thank you to the PTO members for sponsoring the admission fees.
Staff Appreciation Week was held from May 8th to May 12th. Thank you to the PTO for all the goodies during this week of recognition.
PTO is sponsoring Family Roller Skating Night at Roller Kingdom on Thursday, May 25th. Come and join in on the fun from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.
Step-Up-Day will be held on Wednesday, May 31st. Buses will depart from HOS at 9:15 and return by 11:00 a.m. in time for lunch. This visit is an important part of the process of transition from lower to upper elementary. During this time, students will tour the building, meet the staff, and have an opportunity to visit classrooms, including a meet and greet with second grade students. Students will also be provided with a snack in the cafeteria.
Our up-and-coming event for June is Field Day which will be held on Tuesday, June 6th. (Rain Date will be Thursday, June 8th). Children will enjoy many different activities in the playground/field behind the school which is organized by Mr. Dan Saia.
Also, in June the last day for students will be Monday, June 19th. Dismissal will be at 12:30 p.m. and students will have lunch on this day before dismissal. There will be no Champions Program in the afternoon.
