Update - Remote After Thanksgiving

Posted November 17, 2020

Hudson families -

Below is a lot of important information.

All Students Remote Learning

You have probably heard by now that the school board voted last night to move students to remote learning November 30 – December 11, with in-person learners returning to the building on December 14.

This remote learning experience will be very different than last spring. Our schools will be open, staff will be in the buildings, and some students will be in school based on specific needs. We can do this with all the safety protocols we have in place.

There were a few things driving the board discussion and the ultimate decision to go to remote learning after Thanksgiving.

  • The spread of COVID-19 during Thanksgiving gatherings and the potential impact on schools
  • Concern over inequity between the number of students in quarantine and students in school

The next school board meeting is December 7 and the board will discuss if there will be remote learning following the Christmas break.

Schedules

Administrators and teachers have spent the last few months working out the schedule for a shift to all-remote learning. We’ve asked for feedback from Remote Learning Academy teachers. You will receive more details from your child’s teacher and building principal. Expect more traditional schedule and synchronous learning than in the spring.

Technology

The district is still waiting for 900 laptops that were ordered in May. We have secured 350 gently used devices but we won’t receive them until after going remote.

If your student has a school-issued device, we are looking for families to return it to the school if they have a personal device available to use. This will allow us to redistribute devices to students that don’t have access. Please return devices to the main office at your child's school.

Food Service

Food and Nutrition Services will continue to offer FREE breakfast and lunch to ALL Hudson students while schools are closed. Parents MUST PRE-ORDER meals. Learn more and pre-order hereWe are extremely appreciative of our school food service professionals and their efforts to switch operations at any given moment.

Updated COVID-19 Recommendations

The guidelines are constantly evolving for COVID-19. There has been good news this past week with two vaccines hopefully available soon as well as improved treatment.

Please review these updates to help keep everyone safe.

Center for Disease Control Guidelines

  • Everyone should wear a mask in public settings and when around people who don’t live in your household, especially when other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain (our schools are public settings)
  • Wash your hands often
  • Clean AND disinfect frequently touched surfaces daily. This includes tables, doorknobs, light switches, countertops, handles, desks, phones, keyboards, toilets, faucets, and sinks.
  • Be alert for symptoms. Watch for fever, cough, shortness of breath, or other symptoms of COVID-19, especially if you are running essential errands, going into the office or workplace, and in settings where it may be difficult to keep a physical distance of 6 feet.

  NH Travel Guidance

NH travel guidance has changed, allowing people to quarantine for 14 days OR to quarantine for seven days and then get a negative PCR COVID-19 test. Full NH COVID-19 Travel Guidance.

Public health officials are recommending that people keep Thanksgiving gathers to household members and consider hosting virtual celebrations with friends and family that don’t live with you.

One final note – we planned to ask families today if you would like to switch your student between RLA and in-person at the end of the trimester. We’ve decided to delay the sign up - we will figure out a new date and keep you posted.

I know there is a lot of information right now. Please keep in mind that everyone is trying their best to serve students, stay safe, and support their own families. We will continue to work together to get through this.
