Update - March 26

Parents, teachers, and students -

Moving from a traditional method of instruction to remote instruction has been a difficult and stressful experience for many.  Teachers have done an incredible job of preparing for this in a very short time and have rolled out the plan as well as possible considering the circumstances.  Students and parents have risen to the task to meet the expectations for this new way to learn.  On top of all of this, the governor has ordered the school districts to remain in remote learning until at least May 4th in his news briefing this afternoon.

For these reasons, I have decided to declare the following:
- Tomorrow, March 27th will be a TAB (Take a Breath) day (see below)
- April vacation will remain in place and will not used to shorten the school year
- After a review of how this first week unfolded, we will adjust instructional delivery to respond to the celebrations and challenges that we experienced this week

What a TAB day looks like for students:
- Just like the preparation for teacher week (3/16 to 3/20), the day off from school work will not be added onto the calendar at the end of the year
- Students can take the day off or catch up on work if they wish

What a TAB day looks like for teachers:
- March 27th was going to be a PD day in which mental health was going to be the topic
- Teachers can take the day off to regroup, help their own families during this difficult time, plan for additional weeks of remote instruction or reward themselves in their own way for getting remote learning off the ground

What this means for parents:
- Pay full attention to working at home or taking care of you families outside of education instead doing both

Teachers and parents have been gracious in the frustration that this has caused many and I’m very grateful for that.

There have been many more constructive criticisms and positive suggestions than there have been complaints – for this, I thank you.

We'll have more details for you next week.
