Hudson School District Winter Highlights

The district is wrapping up the process of presenting its budget to the town's budget committee.  The Hudson School Board has carefully crafted a budget proposal for 2010-2011 that addresses important needs identified in the district's Strategic Plan, fulfills contractual obligations, and continues the Board's commitment to fiscal restraint, particularly in this time of great financial uncertainity for our community members.

The general fund budget increases by $155,455 or 0.40%.  Other funds, offset totally y revenue, decrease by $506,449 or 12.2%.  The total budget decreases by $350,994 or .81%

No new staff members are requested and our financial separate warrant articles are limited to three collective bargaining agreements and the non-union salary pool proposal.  these warrant articles will be presented at the December 28th Budget Committee meeting.  We have ratified all three agreements with the teachers, administrators, and part-time support staff.

Outside of "other funds" non-property tax revenues decreases by $979,263, fueled primarily by reductions in kindergarten aid, transfer funds, and the fund balance.  The net impact of this proposed bydget is $1,134,718 or $.39 on the tax rate.  The school tax rate decreased by $.92 for this current year.

In other events, the district finished testing students using NWEA Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) assessment.  The district was pleased to see so many of its students scoring in the average and above average range.  While the state has changed the index score to be considered proficient, the district is pleased with the interventions that have been put in place.
