Hudson School District's Drop Out Task Force Makes Changes

The Hudson School Board and the Superintendent of Schools, Randy Bell, charged the district with developing a Task Force to address the drop out rate.  Laura Bisson, School Board Member and Irene Sousa, Director of Special Services co-chair a committe of approximately 25 staff members who represent all levels of education.  The Task Force, which began its work last October has completed extensive research on the drop out epidemic and has begun to put priorities and plans in place.  The committee has crafted a new attendance and tardy policy for School Board consideration as well as a transition process that helps support students during crucial transition periods, such as second to third grade, fifth to sixth grade and eigth to nineth grade.  The district is focusing on three key components that are strong indicators that students are at-risk.  These indicators are referred to as ABC, attendance concerns, behavioral issues, and curriculum struggles.  In monitoring the ABCs, the district hopes to intervene early ensuring student success in school.
