Kindergarten Registration




Hudson School District




In-person registration will be held on Wednesday, March 6th from 4:00  to 7:00 pm and on Wednesday, March 13th from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at all Hudson School District elementary schools.




If your child will be five on or before September 30, 2013, it is time to start preparing for their first day of kindergarten!  Parents should begin the registration process at home by logging on to the Hudson School District website ( prior to attending in-person registration.  Your completed paperwork will be waiting for you when you come on March 6th or March 13th.  Computers will also be available at in-person registration if that is more convenient for you.  If you have already opened a “family account” online, you need to “add a child”.




We will also be registering new first graders!  For first grade, children must be six years old by September 30, 2013.  Students currently enrolled in the Hudson School District kindergarten program do not need to register.




When you attend in-person registration, please bring along your child’s birth certificate, a copy of your child’s immunization records, and proof of Hudson residency.  Acceptable documents include deed, lease, purchase & sales agreement or tax bill. Driver's license and utility bills are not acceptable as proof of residence.  Parents must register their children in the attendance zone in which they reside.




Staff members, including the School Nurse and Guidance Counselor, will be available at registration to help answer your questions.  We can’t wait to meet you and welcome you to our school community!  If you have any questions in the meantime, contact the Guidance Department at your neighborhood school.






Comcast Offers Low Income Families Affordable Internet and Computer Access

Comcast Corporation is one of the nation's leading providers of entertainment, information and communications products and services announced the launch of Internet Essentials, a new nationwide program which provides families with children who are eligible to receive free lunches under the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) with low-cost Internet service, affordable computers and digital literacy training. The goal of Internet Essentials is to help close the digital divide and ensure more Americans benefit from all the Internet has to offer.

Common Core State Standards

Dear Parents,


Over the next few years, you will notice some changes in instruction and testing in our schools that will directly impact your child.  In July of 2010, the New Hampshire State Board of Education adopted the Common Core State Standards (CCSS), which are national  learning expectations for college and career success that were developed by teachers, parents, school administrators, and education experts.  New Hampshire is one of forty-six states and U.S. territories (including all New England states) that have adopted the CCSS. 


The standards were developed out of a partnership between the Council of Chief State School Officers and the National Governors Association and are not an initiative of the federal government.  These newly adopted standards provide a clear and consistent understanding of what students are expected to learn in K-12 mathematics and English language arts.  While there are many similarities between the existing New Hampshire state standards and the CCSS, you might notice changes in what content is emphasized and the grade in which the content is taught.  For example, there is an increased emphasis on texts that convey factual information, known as informational texts, in elementary school in the new standards.


The purpose of adopting the CCSS is not simply to align with other states, but rather to raise the bar in all grades to ensure that our students are receiving a relevant and rigorous education.  The adoption of the CCSS means that your child will be better prepared to meet the demands of college and the work place in the 21st century.

How much does that pumpkin weigh?

Alvirne Students Speaking to First GradersIn celebration of the fall harvest season the Alvirne High School Agriculture Business students visited Ms. Albert and Ms. Clawson’s first grade classes on Tuesday, October 25. The high school students had a pumpkin weighing competition with the first graders. After teaching the students about pumpkins each first grader guessed how much the pumpkin weighed.

After weighing the pumpkin and seeing if you guessed correctly each first grade student received a small pumpkin. The Alvirne Agriculture Business students thank McQueston Farm for their help in this endeavor.

Hudson School District Title I Program

Title I is a compensatory program funded by an annual grant from the Federal government (funded through No Child Left Behind). The program is designed to provide services to educationally disadvantaged students whose academic progress has been impacted by environmental factors.

Supplemental reading and math instruction is intended to be supplemental to regular classroom instruction, and is not intended to replace the regular classroom experience. The purpose of the supplemental reading and math support is to provide students with additional support in their areas of weakness, bringing them up to the level of their peers. Based on the demographics of the district, schools are allocated federal funds. This information is based from the Census, and the Free and Reduced lunch program for our district.

Title I funds are used to hire additional personnel, and to purchase educational resources that will benefit the students to reach their individual goals. The Title I program in the Hudson School District is a targeted program. Students are identified for participation through the use of specific criteria. Instruction occurs in small groups.

Guidance for these programs is provided by a state coordinator. The local programs are overseen by a school project manager, who is responsible for developing the grant as well as its design, implementation, and instructional model.

Key component of the Title I Program:

• Supplementary-Services must be in addition to the instruction of the classroom teacher.

• Coordination-Supplementary instruction is coordinated with classroom instruction. It is designed for reinforcement, reteaching, or remediation. Pre-teaching of a skill, i.e. vocabulary development

• Communication-Communication between paraprofessionals, teachers, and specialists along with the parents.

• Parent Involvement-Parents receive progress reports on their children, monthly newsletters with numerous suggestions for helping their child, and are invited to school-based information activities.
